Daylight Savings is behind us (hooray!), and this weekend, I’m headed on my first warm-weather vacation of the year to the Dominican Republic. Feels like spring is here or very nearly, so let’s talk wardrobe refresh! Here are a couple spring/summer pieces I’m excited about—mostly tops, dresses, and shoes, with a few other links thrown in. And don’t forget to scroll down for this month’s smorgasbord. Enjoy!
A honey-colored dress. Wear with sandals in the summer, boots in the fall.
Leopard slip dress perfect for date night. Or wear a black pullover to dress it down.
Shirt dress for casual weekends.
An open-front top for date night. I like the bling on the bows!
A summery gingham top. Would be cute with white shorts/pants.
I’m into lilac these days (and highlighter yellow, but that’s another story). This lilac blouse, and also lilac pants, a hat, earrings, and a plaid sweater.
Comfy, creamy sandals for a night out.
Classic Mary Janes with a square toe, a great shoe for work. Or stash these to wear in the fall.
I love Charlotte Stone’s playful clogs! This pair is pretty much sold out, but I’m hoping for a restock soon. Check out her other fun styles too.
An elevated sneaker for the weekend.
I’ve owned these Huarache sandals from Nisolo for a couple years, and they’re the perfect summertime flat.
More metallic! A blingy sandal.
In center: Ballet flats in a pretty springtime hue.
And now for March’s Smorgasbord!
👗 Five of my favorite fashion follows:
📺 The Law According to Lidia Poet: My Netflix algorithm knows I’m a sucker for a period drama, and I gobbled this one up. Headstrong Lidia Poet—who is loosely based on Italy’s first practicing female lawyer—is at risk of being disbarred, simply because she’s a woman. In six episodes, she fights to retain her license while investigating murders, proving her undeniable talent for solving crimes and fighting for justice. A romantic subplot makes this even more of a romp!
📚 Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver: Inspired by Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield but set in modern day Appalachia, this sweeping novel follows the young life of Demon Copperhead, a Melungeon boy living in rural Virginia. Relayed in Demon’s own voice, we hear the story of his inauspicious birth in a trailer to an eighteen-year-old addict, his years in foster care, his brief rise to football stardom, and his slow descent into drugs coupled with a messy first love. Despite the crushing, compounding effects of poverty and addiction that surround him, Demon is stoic and quietly determined; you will root for him, and empathize when things collapse. It’s heavy, but there are glimmers of hope throughout the story, and I think it’s an important read, offering a glimpse into the opioid crisis that permeates our country.
🌸 Alastin Ultra Nourishing Moisturizer: I swear by this stuff!
🎸 Daisy Jones and the Six: Six episodes of the TV adaptation of Taylor Jenkin Reid’s 2019 novel are out now on Amazon Prime, with more dropping every Friday. Book-to-screen adaptations are so hard to get right, and I’ve been really pleased with this one. Sure, you can nitpick it—I wish Billy Dunne was a little more rugged, I wish the music was a little bit better—but overall, it’s nonstop fun. A popcorn watch if there ever was one.
See you in two weeks for a recap of Indian-ish (which, to no one’s surprise, I’m loving so far!).
xo,
Claire
